LASIK Co-Management
Our optometrists will co-manage your LASIK surgery with the LASIK Surgeon. We will give you a list of surgeons with strong reputations. After choosing your surgeon you can choose to have your post-surgical follow ups at our office for your convenience. We will keep in close contact with the surgeon during your follow ups. Of course, you are always free to have follow ups with the surgeon if you have any questions or concern. Our main priority is you having a great outcome.
How is LASIK Performed?
Step 1
First the surgeon applies a few numbing eye-drops to the eye prior to the procedure, and the surgeon marks the cornea with water-soluble ink to guide replacement of the flap.
Step 2
A thin corneal flap is created using an instrument called a microkeratome. This part of the procedure is called keratectomy and makes a “flap” in the corneal tissue on the central part of the eye, which is gently folded back, exposing the underlying layers of the cornea.
The flap can also be created with the use of the Intralase laser. This laser makes a “flap” by making a swirl pattern of interconnecting series of bubbles at an exact depth. This procedure is very accurate.
Step 3
The surgeon then uses the excimer laser to apply a cool beam of light to gently even out the curvature of the cornea. This is done with Custom Wavefront guided technology with the excimer laser. The protective corneal flap is then gently placed back in its original position and begins healing immediately.
Step 4
The flap is gently laid back and a few moisturizing drops are applied to soothe your eye and speed recovery.
You will be seen the next day, the next week and several times after to make sure you are healing well with no complications. You may choose to have these follow-ups with the surgeon or at our office.
